Snowy Books for the Winter

Here are some cozy books set in cold months, perfect for winter reading.

The Ice Palace

Said to be the masterpiece of Norwegian author Tarjei Vesaas, The Ice Palace follows the story of two girls, Siss and Unn, who meet at the ice palace, a frozen waterfall in the fjords, that was transformed into a sparkling structure. Proceed with caution though, because one of the girls goes inexplicably disappears and the tale revolves around the other one's devastated emotions. A rather tragic start to this list, but a book that is sure to leave you reeling.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold

Before the coffee gets cold is a book about a cafe in Tokyo that can send you back in time- and all other things bizarre. The story revolves almost entirely in the underground coffee shop where there is neither much sense of time nor weather, but this heartwarming story that explores different perspectives and relationships, is the perfect winter read.

For the Wolf

"The first daughter is for the throne. The second is for the wolf"

The fantasy needed for the winter months, for the wolf, seems to have it all from deadly powers to dangerous forests, from captured Gods to false legends. A retelling of Red Riding Hood, the book follows Red, a young woman sacrificed to the wolf of the woods in the hope he'll return the world's captured Gods. Hannah Whitten has written a book full of twists and turns to get enjoy in while it snows out.

Pride and Prejudice

Although this book takes place over a long period of time, not just the colder months, it's one of the most beloved classics, one that sometimes simply feels like coming home as you dive into the comfortingly familiar characters and encounters. If you haven't already read Pride and Prejudice, now is the perfect time to start, it takes just a couple of chapters to get into the flow and rhythm of Jane Austen's witty writing. As you follow Elizabeth Bennet's romantic clash with the proud Mr Darcy, you won't be able to help getting lost in the delightful and intriguing world of Regency England.

I will be adding to this list as I stumble upon other lovely books suitable for the winter, but these are all for now. Happy reading!
