6 Signs it's Time to Let Go of a Friend
Updated: Jul 20, 2021
Friends argue all the time- its part of all relationships. But do you have that one friend you just can't stop fighting with? Is it over a small disagreement, or is it a sign thats it time to let go?
I know, letting go of old friends can be hard- I've been there myself. But sometimes cutting ties with people can help you invest in yourself or get out of a toxic friendship. Here are 5 signs that its time let go of a friend- or at least have a very long serious discussion with them.
1. Not Sticking Together
There are three types of people in everyone's life, at least in my opinion. The people that stay with you during tough times, the people who leave you during tough times, and the people who put you in tough times. If your friend is someone who falls into the latter two category, then they might not be someone worth having.
2. You're Trying To Be A People Pleaser
You can't please everyone in life. The people who's image of you doesn't resonate with your image of yourself don't matter. Someone who's opinions bring you down, or those who you can't be yourself around aren't true friends- they never were. After all, those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter.
3, You're The Only One Trying
Remember to ask yourself if you're the only one trying or if you're the only one trying at the moment, before you answer this question. However, you shouldn't be the only one compromising and putting in effort to make your friendship work.
4. They're demanding
Some people are only in friendship for the things they get out of it. Make sure you're not just the giver and they aren't just the taker. Friendship goes both ways.
5. They Don't Respect Your Boundaries
I firmly believe that having boundaries is important, as is learning to say 'no'. If a friend can't respect that, then you need to have a serious conversation.
6. You Just Don't Vibe With Them Anymore
This is one of the simplest reasons. Maybe your friend hasn't done anything wrong, you've just both changed and become into different people. This isn't a bad thing, growth never is, but sometimes people drift apart or find a new attitude and mindset. Don't let this dishearten you, try to sort through your differences. However, don't let your friend hold you back, or cause you any pain. It's all about finding the balance in life.
I wish you the best of luck with your journey :)
wow that's really helpful, thanks!
